Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: July 15, 2025
DEEPdormir is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We believe that everyone, regardless of ability, should have equal access to quality sleep health information and services — including our website, telehealth platform, AI-powered chatbot assistant (AVA), and related digital services. We are continually working to improve the user experience for all visitors and applying relevant accessibility standards.
1. Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
DEEPdormir.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to achieve and maintain full WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance across all of our Digital Properties.
Our conformance goal applies to all content we control on deepdormir.com, including our patient portal, sleep assessment quiz, telehealth scheduling, and informational pages. We recognize that certain third-party content or embedded services may not fully meet these standards (see Section 9).
2. Measures We Take
DEEPdormir takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- Include accessibility as part of our mission statement and organizational values
- Integrate accessibility requirements into our design, development, and content creation processes
- Appoint dedicated personnel responsible for accessibility compliance and monitoring
- Conduct regular accessibility training for our design, development, and content teams
- Perform regular accessibility audits and testing with assistive technologies

- Ensure all new content, features, and pages are tested for accessibility before release
- Include accessibility criteria in vendor and third-party service evaluation
- Maintain a process for receiving and responding to accessibility feedback
3. Accessibility Features
Our website includes the following accessibility features:
- Semantic HTML structure for screen reader compatibility, including proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and document structure
- Keyboard navigation support for all interactive elements, including menus, forms, buttons, modals, and our floating widget
- Skip navigation links allowing keyboard users to bypass repetitive content and jump directly to main content
- Appropriate color contrast ratios meeting WCAG 2.2 AA minimum contrast requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Text alternatives for all non-text content, including images, icons, and informational graphics
- ARIA landmarks and attributes for improved screen reader navigation, including roles, labels, and live regions
- Consistent and predictable navigation throughout the site with a clear visual hierarchy
- Resizable text without loss of content or functionality up to 200% zoom

prefers-reduced-motionoperating system setting - Sufficient target sizes for interactive elements (minimum 24×24 CSS pixels per WCAG 2.2)
4. Telehealth & Digital Health Accessibility
We are committed to making our telehealth services and digital health tools accessible to all patients:
4.1 Telehealth Platform
- Our telehealth platform supports keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility
- Video consultations include options for captioning and visual communication
- Patients who cannot access the telehealth platform due to a disability may request an alternative consultation method (phone call, in-person referral, or other accommodation)
- Scheduling and pre-visit forms are designed to be accessible with assistive technologies
4.2 Sleep Assessment Quiz
- Our sleep assessment quiz is designed with proper form labels, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support
- Progress indicators and error messages are announced to assistive technologies
- If you have difficulty completing the quiz online, you may complete it by phone by calling (516) 548-3028

- Oral appliance fitting and adjustment appointments can be accommodated for patients with mobility or other disabilities
5. AI Chatbot (AVA) Accessibility
Our AI-powered chatbot assistant, AVA, is designed with the following accessibility considerations:
- The chat interface supports keyboard navigation — users can open, interact with, and close the chat window without a mouse
- Chat messages are structured with proper ARIA live regions so that screen readers announce new messages as they arrive
- The chat window is resizable and draggable, with position persistence across sessions
- Text within the chat interface respects browser zoom settings and text resize preferences
- The chat trigger button (floating action button) includes appropriate ARIA labels and focus styles
- Color contrast within the chat interface meets WCAG 2.2 AA requirements
Known limitation: AVA's streaming text responses may present challenges for some screen readers. We are working to improve the experience for assistive technology users. If you have difficulty using AVA, please contact us directly at (516) 548-3028 or info@deepdormir.com and a team member will assist you.
6. Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers: JAWS (Windows), NVDA (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
- Screen magnification: ZoomText, built-in browser zoom, operating system magnification tools
- Speech recognition: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, built-in voice control (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation: Full functionality available without a mouse on all major browsers
- Switch devices and alternative input methods: Compatible through standard keyboard emulation
Our website is tested on the following browsers for accessibility: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge (latest stable versions). We recommend using the latest version of your preferred browser and assistive technology for the best experience.
7. Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. We are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to address them:
- Older PDF documents: Some PDF documents created before our current accessibility standards were adopted may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are converting these documents to accessible formats on an ongoing basis. If you need an accessible version of any document, please contact us.
- Embedded third-party content: Some embedded content from third-party services (such as payment processors, scheduling widgets, or video players) may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. We work with our vendors to encourage accessibility improvements and select accessible alternatives where possible.
- AI chatbot (AVA) streaming responses: The real-time streaming text output from AVA may not be optimally announced by all screen readers. We are investigating improvements to the ARIA live region implementation.
- Complex data tables: Some tables on our legal pages may present navigation challenges for screen reader users. We are working to improve table markup and provide alternative text descriptions.
- Older browser versions: Some accessibility features may not function correctly in browsers that are more than two major versions behind the current release.
If you encounter any accessibility barriers not listed above, please contact us. We take all feedback seriously and will work to resolve issues promptly.

You will not be penalized or denied services for filing an accessibility complaint.
12. Legal Compliance
DEEPdormir is committed to compliance with applicable accessibility laws and regulations, including:
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — Our website and digital services are places of public accommodation under the ADA. The Department of Justice's 2024 final rule (28 C.F.R. Part 36) requires that web content and mobile applications of public accommodations conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, with compliance deadlines based on entity size. We target the more current WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard.
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act — While Section 508 directly applies to federal agencies and their contractors, we follow its guidelines as a best practice for ensuring accessibility.
- Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — As a healthcare provider receiving federal financial assistance (including Medicare and Medicaid), we are committed to nondiscrimination in our programs and activities, including effective communication and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
- State-specific accessibility laws — We comply with applicable state laws regarding digital accessibility and nondiscrimination.
Our goal is not just to meet minimum legal requirements but to provide truly inclusive experiences for all users. We view accessibility as an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project.
13. Technical Specifications
The accessibility of DEEPdormir.com relies on the following technologies:
- HTML5 for semantic structure and document markup
- WAI-ARIA 1.2 for enhanced accessibility features, including roles, states, properties, landmarks, and live regions
- CSS3 for presentation, layout, responsive design, and reduced-motion preferences
- JavaScript (ES6+) for interactive functionality, with progressive enhancement so core content remains accessible without JavaScript where possible
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA and are compatible with major screen readers and assistive technologies when used with current browser versions.
14. Assessment Methods
DEEPdormir assesses the accessibility of our Digital Properties through a combination of:
- Automated testing tools: axe DevTools, WAVE (WebAIM), Google Lighthouse, Pa11y, and browser developer tools accessibility audits
- Manual testing: Keyboard-only navigation testing, screen reader testing (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), color contrast verification, and content review
- User testing: Periodic testing with individuals who use assistive technologies in their daily lives
- Expert review: Accessibility audits by qualified accessibility consultants against WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria
- Continuous monitoring: Automated scans integrated into our development pipeline to catch regressions before deployment
We perform testing across multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge), devices (desktop, tablet, mobile), and operating systems (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android) to ensure the broadest possible accessibility.
15. Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing effort at DEEPdormir. We are committed to a continuous process of testing, learning, and enhancing the accessibility of our Digital Properties. Our current accessibility improvement priorities include:
- Improving screen reader compatibility for our AI chatbot (AVA) streaming responses
- Converting all remaining PDF documents to accessible formats
- Enhancing mobile accessibility across all pages and interactive elements
- Working with third-party vendors to improve the accessibility of embedded services
- Expanding user testing with diverse groups of assistive technology users
